Meet Johora: A Master Weaver from Khulna
Johora Begum, a skilled weaver from a small village in Khulna, has been weaving date palm-leaf baskets for over 15 years. She inherited the craft from her mother and now passes on her knowledge to younger generations.
Before joining BaSE, Johora struggled to find consistent work, but today, she earns a stable income that supports her family and enables her children to pursue education.
“BaSE has changed my life,” Johora shares. “Now, I have a steady income, and I feel proud to see my baskets reaching homes worldwide.”
Pia: Reviving the Art of Nakshi Kantha Embroidery
Pia, a young artisan from Jessore, specializes in Nakshi Kantha embroidery, a centuries-old art form. Her journey with BaSE started five years ago when she decided to turn her passion into a profession.
Through training and fair wages, Pia has been able to refine her craft and create exquisite hand-stitched textiles that reflect Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage.
“I love working on each piece because it tells a story,” Pia says. “Thanks to BaSE, I can continue this traditional craft and share it with the world.”
